What we love about this recipe

It's ice-cold, frothy, and naturally sweet. And it's for whenever: the start of the morning, cooling down after a workout, or an afternoon pick-me-up. Basically, it's the ultimate iced coffee alternative.

Where's it from?

Cold cocoa drinks have long been enjoyed around the world, from traditional chocolate beverages in Central America to modern iced chocolate drinks. This version takes inspiration from both, combining simple ingredients into a refreshing drink with an optional coffee boost.

Why cocoa?

Cocoa is the heart of this drink, bringing deep chocolate flavour, natural richness, and a satisfying balance to the sweetness. It blends beautifully with milk or water for a refreshing drink that's indulgent without being heavy.

Cocoa Recommendation

What cocoa should I use?

For a richer, more dessert-like flavour, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder. If you prefer a bolder, slightly fruitier chocolate taste, raw cocoa powder works beautifully too. Both dissolve well when shaken or blended and create a smooth, refreshing drink.

Chef’s tips

Raw Truth

Use raw cocoa for a more intense, bitter chocolate kick.

Go Dutch

Or, alkalised cocoa makes it smoother and more dessert-like.

Extra Boost

Coffee ups the energy boost without overpowering the chocolate.

Save it

It can be made ahead and stored chilled for up to 24 hours.
